About:
The Lowry is an arts and entertainment complex set in a beautiful waterside location, at the heart of The Quays. The Lowry houses three theatre spaces which present an exciting programme of national and internationally acclaimed drama, opera, ballet, dance, musicals, music and comedy, as well as fun family shows throughout the year. The main gallery shows a large collection of artworks by artist LS Lowry, which the building is named after. Additionally the galleries present a changing programme of contemporary art which reflect the venue’s strong performance heritage.
The delicious restaurant with its seasonal great British menu is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely lunch whilst taking in the magnificent waterside views. The cafe and bars offer pre-show dining and interval drinks allowing theatre goers the chance to unwind and enjoy the striking architecture and views of The Quays at night. Visitors can get creative at one of many workshops taking them through from script writing to acting masterclasses. Families can messy in one of the weekly creative workshops inspired by the shows and exhibitions, and for young people The Lowry is one of only a few venues nationally to offer professional training in dance and performance.
An architectural flagship with a unique identity, the Lowry has been entertaining people since 2000. Designed to reflect its waterfront location, the building is based upon a ship steaming into the docks. The colours of the building grow warmer towards the centre. At night, the building really comes into its own when the perforated steel of the exterior is illuminated from inside and the whole building glows.
A breathtaking new international landmark, The Lowry is a "must see" tourist attraction.
