The Snow Maiden is warm and beautiful but she hides a tragic secret, her heart is made of ice. If warmed by the love of a human heart, her heart will melt and she will die. Enchanted by the shepherd boy Lel, she yearns to experience life with humans. Her parents relent with tragic consequences. A gorgeous and lyrical evocation of the natural world, Rimsky Korsakov's delightfully colourful score is based on a well-loved Russian fairy tale.
